There are moments in your creative life that feel like pure magic, and last week delivered exactly that when Jedward walked through my studio doors for a glassblowing lesson.
Arrival at my glassblowing studio
I'd tidied the studio, organised the tools, and mentally rehearsed the safety briefing. But nothing could have prepared me for the sheer spectacle of their entrance. That iconic hair – gravity-defying and perfectly styled – preceded them like a magnificent crown. And the sequins. Every surface in my studio suddenly caught the light differently, transformed from a functional workspace into something resembling a glitterball. It was as if they'd brought their own atmosphere with them.
Jedward's Positive Energy
What struck me most wasn't just their visual impact, but the incredible energy they radiated. Throughout the lesson, John and Edward were completely engaged, genuinely excited about every stage of the glassblowing process. Their enthusiasm was infectious. When they took turns at the blowpipe, their concentration was absolute, but punctuated with those trademark grins and encouraging words to each other.
The studio, often a space of quiet focus and intense heat, became filled with laughter. They asked thoughtful questions, weren't afraid to try new techniques, and celebrated every small success with the kind of joy that reminded me why I fell in love with this craft in the first place.
Capturing Jedward's energy in a Bottle
After they left – taking some glitter and considerably more joy with them – I found myself still buzzing with creative energy. I couldn't shake the feeling that something special had happened, that the studio itself had been charged with their unique spirit.
That's when the idea struck me: what if I could capture the essence of Jedward in glass? Not just commemorate the visit, but try to translate that energy, that sparkle, that unapologetic joy into something tangible.
I spent the following days working on a perfume bottle design. Every curve, every flourish was informed by that afternoon. I wanted it to feel dynamic, unexpected, and absolutely full of life – just like them. The result is something I'm genuinely proud of, a piece that channels their electric energy into glass form.

Essence of Jedward!
You can see the finished perfume bottle here. It's bold, it's sparkly, and it refuses to be ignored – much like Jedward themselves.
This project reminded me that inspiration can arrive in the most spectacular ways. Sometimes all it takes is two people, their incredible hair, an abundance of sequins, and the willingness to try something new with absolute commitment and joy.
Thank you, John and Edward, for bringing your light to my studio. You've left it – and me – forever changed.
